Pulp fiction adventure game for PC

The Drifter is a premium adventure title for PC developed by the folks over at Powerhoof. It's a point-and-click thriller that tells the story of a drifter who inexplicably comes back to life just before he gets killed for witnessing a violent and gruesome murder.

Just like The Supper and Loco Motive, this demo version of The Drifter features a dark and mysterious plot that players will need to uncover to reach the truth. It also features the same retro pixel art style, however, its presentation is more mature and violent in nature, which works well with the story it's trying to tell.

What is its story about?

The Drifter tells the story of Mick Carter, a man who has been drifting for most of his life. He never stays in one place for too long and jumps from one job to another just as quickly. Returning to his hometown, he witnesses a violent murder taking place, and is unfortunately killed because of it. Inexplicably, though, his consciousness goes back to his body seconds before his untimely death.

Realizing that he was unjustly framed for the murder he just witnessed and haunted by feelings of dread and torment, he dives headfirst into a world filled with conspiracies, violence, and the obssessions of a madman. The game takes cues from classic noir films for its storytelling. You'll take on the role of a pseudo detective as you solve puzzles and find clues in your quest for the truth.

The game even has fully-voiced dialogue to help tell its story and convey the dark and brooding vibe it gives off. At this point, it should go without saying that it's meant more for a mature audience. This is also supported by the fact that despite its pixel art styling, it features plenty of violence, blood, and gore throughout. Look out for its official release date via its Steam page.

An intriguing crime thriller for pulp fiction fans

Going straight to the point, The Drifter is pretty much a no-brainer recommendation and a must-play for any fan of pulp fiction crime thrillers. It's art is viciously beautiful, it's narrative is captivating, and it captures the vibe and presentation of classic noir films with skill. Keep this on your radar for when it officially releases.
